This week, Gladys and the Duke walked down the aisle, albeit much sooner than I thought they’d marry, partially because I expected the main conflict this season to be Bertha’s conniving plan to leverage her daughter to aristocratic heights. Typical of The Gilded Age, though, there was no shortage of tension that would quickly get resolved or diffused as we took our seats in the church, thanks in part to Bertha’s sister, Monica O’Brien, who fully stole the show this week.
