They had a beautiful table in the lobby ( against the wall ) where the doormen would sort the mail for each apt in little piles. Getting down there to remove less than nice letters from my teachers at school was always a priority!
Love this. A window into the lives of the "modern" aristocracy of New York in the early 20th century, fascinating to see the apartment layouts. It reminded me of old black and white films of the period, with Fred Astaire or Katherine Hepburn, always the glamour of the apartment interiors, and the discreet servants bringing martinis, and the views over Central Park.
Not me getting derailed for 45 minutes this morning staring at these plans - SO GOOD!!! Thank you so much for sharing them!
😍😍😍 happy Friday!
I grew up at 778 Park Ave! 9th Floor!
Ooohh 😍😍😍
And……I got the primary bedroom ⚡️( The layout of each apt is different btw )
Very impressive! Yes, I'm familiar with the apt - it last traded in Sept!
You follow that building?
I’m a broker in the city, and I do a lot of business in uptown co-ops.

Any powder rooms in public areas? I see how you might need to "show someone to the restroom." I guess guests weren't supposed to need the facilities.
I had the same thought!
I wonder if that extra door in the coat closet was the thing that gave C.S.Lewis the idea for the coat closet/wardrobe in the Narnia books.

Great read! Would you consider showing the conversion of the prewar to modern layouts?
Ooo any chance of a post on WAR apartments?
Oh sure! I could. They’re honestly not ~as~ interesting to look at on paper. Better for experiencing in person (and maybe living in lol)
